Montalcino owes its name to the holm-oaks (ilex in Latin) which surround this hilly area.The stronghold of Montalcino has always been of capital importance due to the town´s strategic position on top of a hill. Wine characterises Montalcino´s culture and history, which actually is the country of Brunello.The country exclusively produces this wine from Sangiovese Grosso vines ( 100% ).A ruby color, a typical scent, a dry, lightly tannic taste stand as its major, successful features. Long regarded as the finest expression of Italian oenology Brunello di Montalcino is produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes (named "Brunello" in Montalcino). And it is made according to the standards of a severe discipline that, as well as fixing limits on yields per hectare , the period of obligatory ageing and the characteristics of the product, also establishes that before the wine can be sold it must be subjected to examination by an appropriate commission.The regular Brunello ages 5 years, the Riserva 6.

The departure from your hotel or villa will be at 9.30 a.m. in order to take a scenic road through the Crete and admire spectacular views of rolling clay hills. We will reach the wine area of Montalcino and stop to a boutique winery. Here we will meet the owner who will show us the estate and the ancient art of wine making that belongs to the family since generations. We’ll have the opportunity to taste their outstanding Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, served with delicious Pecorino cheese and local ham. After we´ll reach the small village of Sant’Angelo in Colle for a terrific lunch in a typical trattoria; according with the season you’ll have Tuscan vegetable soups and hand made pasta and several kinds of “ antipasti” served with a nice local wine. After lunch let´s reach Montalcino and enjoy a relaxing stroll in the center admiring breathtaking views all around ! After we will reach the second winery and enjoy a private tasting of  Brunello and Supertuscan wines.
The return to the hotel or villa will be at around 5 p.m.
