Nestled in the rolling hills and the Valpolicella vineyards a short distance from Verona stands the Villa del Quar, an elegant patrician residence of the Veneto where time seems to have stood still at the height of the Napoleonic Era’s golden age, from 1790 to 1810. The hotel’s furnishings, décor and colour scheme all evoke the Neoclassical style then in vogue, which reconciled taste for comfort, elegance and sophistication with the graceful, simple lines of antiquity, reflecting the renewed archaeological interest in several of the great civilisations of the past. Situated on the grounds of a vast estate planted with vines, the hotel complex is surrounded by a spacious and luxuriant garden dotted with palms, pine trees and assorted fruit trees, in the midst of which is found the large swimming pool in the shape of a clover leaf. The estate’s vineyards produce its own label of red wine, the Satyrus Riserva. All the rooms open onto the gardens and are decorated in the Empire style with antique furniture upholstered in brocade that is either gold or striped in various shades of purple.
